The taxicab has held a special place for New Yorkers. We depend on it almost as much as the MTA subway, and it’s become imprinted as a part of NYC culture and what makes New York so unique.

The taxi has played an integral part in cinema and television over the years. From movings like Taxi Driver, On The Waterfront, Midnight Cowboy, and even having it’s own sitcom show in the 1970s. The list is long.

It was my intention to capture and a few of the main models of the taxi going back to the very beginning before it was a yellow cab, when one of the first taxis was a French car brand called Darracq in 1907. The 1946 DeSoto, 1964 Checker, 1972 Dodge Coronet, 1990 Crown Victoria, 2004 Toyota Prius, and then I added Uber ride sharing as a marker of irony of how the industry has changed or become more democratized. There were a few other brands of taxis during the century but I just wanted to focus on the few that played a large role in New York consciousness.
